Comprehensive evaluations to assess your symptoms, establish a diagnosis when clinically appropriate, and document how your mental health affects your daily life and functioning.

Military Sexual Trauma (MST)

We understand that many veterans who experienced Military Sexual Trauma (MST) did not report the incident or seek mental health treatment while serving. Stigma, fear of retaliation, career concerns, and military culture often contributed to veterans remaining silent.

Our providers offer a supportive, trauma informed environment where veterans can share their experiences without judgment. We can help identify and document current mental health conditions, symptoms, severity, and functional impact that may be associated with MST, even when the experience was not formally reported during military service.

Depending on the individual circumstances, services may include a Mental Health Evaluation, Independent Medical Opinion (IMO), or Nexus Letter. Every case is different and will be reviewed individually to determine which service is clinically appropriate and what documentation may be helpful.

Independent Medical Opinions

Individualized record reviews and professional medical opinions to support service connection, secondary conditions, or an increased evaluation for worsening mental health symptoms when clinically supported by the evidence.

VA Disability Mental Health Evaluations

Comprehensive mental health evaluations designed to identify and document current diagnosis, symptoms, severity, and functional impairment. Evaluations provide veterans with clear, professional clinical documentation that may be used as supporting evidence in a VA disability claim. These evaluations do no replace a VA C&P Exam but provides the Veteran with strong evidence to support their claim.

Individual Therapy for Veterans

Confidential, veteran focused therapy for individuals navigating PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and other mental health concerns. Therapy is available to veterans located in states where the provider is licensed.

Trauma informed mental health evaluations and documentation for veterans who experienced Military Sexual Trauma (MST). We understand that many incidents were never reported during service due to stigma, fear of retaliation, career concerns, or pressure to remain silent.

Evaluations focus on identifying and documenting current mental health diagnoses, symptoms, severity, functional impairment, and relevant history. When clinically supported, documentation may address the relationship between a veteran’s current mental health condition and their reported MST experience.

A lack of an in service report does not mean your experience or current symptoms should go undocumented. Our goal is to provide an independent, thorough, and respectful clinical evaluation based on your individual history and current presentation.

We are a small team of licensed mental health professionals here to help.

Veteran Mental Health Evaluations was created to help veterans receive thorough, professional mental health evaluations and clear documentation of their symptoms and experiences.

As a veteran and licensed mental health counselor, I understand that discussing mental health and navigating the VA disability process can feel overwhelming. My goal is to provide a respectful, comfortable environment where veterans feel heard and their concerns are carefully evaluated.

Services include comprehensive mental health evaluations, diagnostic assessments, documentation of current symptoms and functional impairment, and independent clinical opinions when appropriate. Evaluations are individualized and based on clinical findings, the veteran’s history, and available supporting records.

Every veteran deserves to have their experience taken seriously and documented accurately.

Meet the Founder

Sandie Leonard, LMHC, is the founder of VeteranMentalHealthEval.com and a United States Air Force Veteran who served in Security Forces. Her military experience gives her a personal understanding of the culture of service and the challenges many veterans face when seeking mental health support.

For many service members, mental health concerns went undocumented because of stigma, fear of how seeking help might affect their careers, or the expectation that they should simply push through and deal with it. Years later, that lack of documentation can create additional challenges when veterans seek recognition and support for conditions related to their military service.

Through her work with veterans in private practice, Sandie recognized a significant need for accessible, veteran focused mental health evaluations, clinical documentation, and ongoing support. VeteranMentalHealthEval.com was created to expand those services and help as many veterans as possible receive thorough, professional documentation while also feeling heard, understood, and respected throughout the process.
